Acting Mercer County Prosecutor Theresa L. Hilton announced that authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 17-year-old Trenton resident over the weekend.
On September 22, 2024, at approximately 12:32 p.m., Trenton Police were alerted to gunfire by a ShotSpotter activation in the area of Parkside and Homan Avenues.
Officers arriving at the scene discovered Opium Leverette, a black male teenager, suffering from a gunshot wound to his back.
Officers immediately began providing first aid until Trenton Emergency Medical Services (TEMS) arrived and transported the victim to Capital Health Regional Medical Center.
Despite efforts to save him, Leverette was pronounced dead at 1:09 p.m.
The Mercer County Homicide Task Force is actively investigating the incident.
