Newark Charter School Placed on Lockdown After Active Shooter Threat

Authorities are investigating a threat made against Maria L. Varisco Rogers Charter School in Newark. On Friday afternoon, a temporary lockdown and a thorough search of the property followed.

According to Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé, police received a call at approximately 1:44 p.m. reporting an active shooter inside the school, located at 233 Woodside Avenue.

In response, Director Frage said the school was immediately placed on lockdown to ensure the safety of students and staff.

After an extensive search by responding officers, it was determined that the threat was unfounded, and no injuries were reported.

The incident remains under investigation, and authorities are working to identify the source of the false report.
