A crash investigation team is looking into a severe accident that left one person severely injured on the Garden State Parkway in Essex County on Friday night.
The incident occurred around 8:05 p.m. in the southbound lanes near mile marker 145.3.
According to preliminary information, police arrived to find an unidentified person lying on the highway with a massive head injury.
Troopers closed lanes while EMS tended to the unconscious and unresponsive victim, who was transported to University Hospital in critical condition.
Authorities are working to determine if the victim was ejected from a vehicle and possibly struck by another car.
The investigation remains ongoing.
