Newark Teen Electrocuted in Suspected Trespassing Incident on NJ Transit Tracks

NJ Transit Police are investigating a possible trespassing incident that left two teenagers, including a Newark teen, injured after coming into contact with overhead electrical lines.

Transit officials said in a statement that the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon and caused significant train delays in the area.

AdAt around 3:27 p.m., authorities responded to the Morris & Essex Line tracks near Roseville Avenue and 7th Avenue in Newark following reports of two trespassers on the tracks.

According to initial reports, the teens may have been trespassing on an overhead signal structure when they were injured by electricity, possibly falling to the tracks.

Both individuals were transported to the hospital, though the extent of their injuries remains unknown at this time.

Investigators are still determining whether one or both of the teens sustained injuries.

Train traffic on the Morris & Essex, Gladstone Branch, and Montclair-Boonton Lines was temporarily halted but has since resumed.

Passengers experienced delays of up to 45 minutes in both directions.AdThe investigation is ongoing as NJ Transit officials continue to gather more information.
