Newark police are investigating whether a man who entered a South Ward hospital with a gunshot wound early Sunday morning was shot in a nearby community.
Officials at Newark Beth Israel Hospital notified police when the male arrived at the emergency department around 12:17 a.m., suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Just before this, at approximately 11:40 p.m., police had been dispatched to the vicinity of 22 Voorhees Street after receiving reports of gunfire in the area.
Despite a thorough search by the Shooting Response Team and other detectives, no injuries were reported at the scene.
Authorities are actively investigating the shooting, trying to determine if the hospitalized victim is linked to the earlier incident.
No arrests have been made at this time as the investigation continues.
