Newark police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect involved in a carjacking and assault that took place on August 13.
According to Director Frage, at approximately 2 p.m. that day, a victim was sitting on her moped, waiting for a food order in the 400 block of Central Avenue.
Without warning, the suspect ran across the street, assaulted the victim, and knocked her off the moped.
Director Frage said a second suspect then took control of the moped and fled eastbound on Central Avenue.
Meanwhile, the first suspect, who had assaulted the victim, escaped on foot in the same direction.
The suspect is described as a Black male, dressed in a black shirt, pants, and sneakers and notably wearing a yellow and orange high-visibility jacket.
Newark Public Safety Director Fragé is urging anyone with information about the identity of the suspect to contact the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).
Authorities are hopeful that someone may recognize the individual and provide valuable information to bring the suspects to justice.
