Police Seek Public's Help in Locating Man for Questioning in Newark Robbery

Newark authorities are requesting the community's assistance in locating Andre Thompson, 53, who is wanted for questioning in connection with a robbery that took place on August 11, 2024.AdAccording to Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé, the incident occurred at approximately 11:06 p.m. when a woman was sitting on the porch of her home on Houston Street.

The suspect arrived in a silver minivan, possibly a Honda Odyssey, and exited the vehicle armed with a weapon.

He approached the porch, assaulted the victim by punching her in the face, and stole her purse, which contained $200 and several bank cards.

After the robbery, the suspect fled the scene, driving northbound on Houston Street toward New York Avenue.

Director Frage said he was described as wearing a black ski mask, a hoodie, and pants. The minivan was noted to have tinted rear windows and dark-colored rims.

Andre Thompson, identified as the driver, is described as a dark-skinned Black male, 5’9” in height, with a medium build, bald head, and a goatee.AdAuthorities are urging anyone with information on Thompson’s whereabouts to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).
