UPDATE 12:35 pm: Passaic County officials confirmed a second perosn has died in the crash.
Authorities in Passaic County are currently investigating a traffic accident that occurred early Sunday morning, resulting in fatal injuries to one individual and serious injuries to several others.
The violent wreck happened around 4:10 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Route 20 (McLean Boulevard) in Paterson.
Upon arrival, emergency responders were confronted with a chaotic scene where one person was ejected from their vehicle, with at least three other people found trapped inside the wreckage.
This was a single vehicle crash.
The impact was so severe that it caused a pole to collapse onto the roadway, complicating rescue and recovery efforts.
The New Jersey Department of Transportation was called to the scene to assist with traffic control and manage the aftermath of the crash.
As of now, the victims have been reported to suffer from severe to life-threatening injuries.
Passaic County Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
