Newark Police Investigate Central Ward Gunfire Incident

Newark Police are actively investigating a gunfire incident that occurred in the Central Ward on Saturday night.NinosReports of shots fired near 291 18th Avenue came in around 9:45 p.m., prompting an immediate response from law enforcement.

Upon arrival, police discovered several shell casings scattered in the vicinity.

The area was quickly secured, and the Newark Shooting Response Team was called in to assist with the investigation. As of now, no injuries have been linked directly to the scene of the incident.

However, a related development occurred around 1 a.m. when a gunshot victim arrived at Beth Israel Hospital claiming to have been shot in Irvington.

Authorities are currently verifying his account to determine any possible connection to the earlier gunfire in Newark.

The investigation remains active, and police have not yet confirmed the exact location of where the hospital-reported shooting took place.
