Update 10:15 pm: NPD updated the child’s age from 4 to 3-years-old
Police in Newark are investigating a shooting that left a four-year-old boy in critical condition on Thursday evening.
According to Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé, officers responded to a call at a residence on Wainwright Street near Bragaw Avenue at approximately 5:47 p.m. on Thursday, August 15.
Upon arrival, police discovered the young boy suffering from a gunshot wound, while two other children at the scene were unharmed.
The injured child was rushed to University Hospital for treatment, where he remains in critical condition. A firearm was recovered at the scene, and authorities believe the shooting was accidental and self-inflicted.
The incident is still under investigation as police work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
