UPDATE: Former NJ Cop Sentenced to Prison for DWI That Killed Two Passengers

Authorities in Somerset County announced that on Wednesday, August 14, the Honorable Jonathan W. Romankow, J.S.C., sentenced defendant Amitoj Oberoi to two concurrent terms of 15 years in State prison on two counts of first-degree Vehicular Homicide.

The No Early Release Act requires defendant Oberoi to serve 85% of the sentence without eligibility for parole, officials said.AdAccording to officials, defendant Oberoi was also sentenced on a motor vehicle offense of Driving While Intoxicated.

The charges and conviction are a result of a motor vehicle crash that occurred on August 27, 2023, at about 6:22 a.m., on Route 27 in Franklin Township, officials stated.

Authorities say the crash resulted in the deaths of victims Carlos Perez-Gaytan and Victor Cabrera-Francisco, who were passengers in the vehicle driven by defendant Oberoi.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutor John R. Ascione, officials say.
