14 Arrested for Newark Violent Crimes in August

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé reports the arrest of 14 individuals arrested for violent crimes that occurred in August 2024.

“I am grateful for the commitment of our Fugitive Apprehension Team, Shooting Response Team, Robbery Unit, Auto Unit, Special Victims Unit, Detective Bureau members, and the U.S. Marshals Service for these outstanding results,” Director Fragé said.Ad

“The Newark Police Division is focused on keeping our residents and visitors safe,” he added.

The following suspects have been listed by Newark Police officials and charged. 

  • Shadeed M. Berry, 46, of Newark, was arrested on August 5, 2024. Berry faces charges of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and certain persons prohibited from weapon possession for an incident that occurred on April 7, 2024, at the 100 block of Scheerer Avenue.

 

  • Erik M. McCray, Jr., 35, of Newark, was arrested on August 6, 2024. He faces two counts of aggravated assault in connection with a warrant issued for an incident that occurred on June 19, 2024, in Albany County, New York.

 

  • Brittany S. Bell, 33, was arrested on August 7, 2024, in connection with an incident that occurred on July 25, 2024, in the city’s Central Ward. She faces two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon.

  • Jordany Alexandre, 33, of Newark, was arrested on August 7, 2024. He faces charges of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and simple assault in connection with an incident that occurred on June 21, 2024, in the city’s Central Ward.

 

  • David Locke, 26, of Newark, was arrested on August 9, 2024, in connection with an incident of terroristic threats that occurred on July 7, 2024, in the South Ward. Locke faces charges of harassment, terroristic threats, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and criminal mischief.

 

  • Darrell T. Maxwell, 34, of Newark, was arrested on August 8, 2024. He faces a charge of aggravated assault in connection with an incident that occurred on July 13, 2024, in the city’s West Ward.

 

  • Tanisha Young, 39, of Newark, was arrested on August 8, 2024. She faces charges of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and terroristic threats in connection with an incident that occurred on August 4, 2024, in the city’s South Ward.

  • Maniyah S. Cannady, 22, of Newark, was arrested on August 8, 2024. She faces charges of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in connection with an incident that occurred on May 30, 2024, in the South Ward.

 

  • Tevin McNeil, 24, of Elizabeth, and Salik Ford, 21, of Newark, were each arrested on August 7, 2024, and Martin Bennett, 32, of East Orange, was arrested on August 8, 2024. Each man is facing charges of aggravated assault and conspiracy in connection with an incident that occurred on July 21, 2024, at South Orange Avenue and Fairmount Avenue.

 

  • Darrain D. Gilbert, 32, of Newark, was arrested on August 9, 2024, for an outstanding warrant.

 

  • Dwayne A. Carter, 40, of Newark, was arrested on August 8, 2024, on a charge of a motor vehicle theft that occurred on July 23, 2024, in the East Ward.Ad
  • Enzo G. Contrera, 29, of Rahway, was arrested on August 8, 2024, while in custody at the Union Correctional Facility, in connection with a robbery that occurred on June 11, 2024, in the South Ward. He faces charges of robbery, conspiracy, obstruction of the administration of the law, and hindering apprehension.

These charges are merely accusations. Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
