The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is on the scene investigating a police-involved shooting that resulted in severe injuries of a suspect in Newark’s South Ward this evening.
The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Clinton Place between Nye and Hawthorne avenues.
While the exact details of what led to the shooting have not been disclosed by law enforcement officials, at least one officer fired his weapon at a suspect for reasons yet unknown.
The suspect was rushed to University Hospital, where EMS administered CPR upon arrival.
Additionally, two Newark Police officers were transported to a hospital for evaluation, though reports indicate that neither officer was shot. 
A crash at the scene is also under investigation as part of the ongoing inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
