A shooting incident that occurred in Newark's South Ward early Saturday morning left an unidentified individual critically injured.
The incident occurred around 1:50 a.m. in the 800 block of Elizabeth Avenue.

Upon responding to reports of gunfire in the area, Newark police discovered the victim with a severe bullet wound to the head.
The victim was immediately rushed to University Hospital for medical care.
Newark's Shooting Response Team has been called to assist with the ongoing investigation. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the motive behind the shooting remains under active investigation.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to help bring clarity to this violent event.
