A man has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault that occurred in West New York in July, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.
Carlos Ruiz Castro, a resident of West New York, was taken into custody by members of the United States Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force on Friday, August 9, 2024.Ruiz Castro faces multiple serious charges, including aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping, sexual assault, aggravated assault, and aggravated criminal sexual contact.
He was arrested on Jackson Avenue in Hackensack and has been transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, where he is being held pending his first court appearance.
The charges stem from an incident reported on Saturday, July 27, 2024. A 40-year-old woman reported that she was sexually assaulted by an unknown man around 1:30 a.m. near Hudson Avenue and 51st Street in West New York.
According to the victim, the man grabbed her by the hair before assaulting her.
Prosecutor Suarez credited the Special Victims Unit and the West New York Police Department for their roles in the investigation and arrest, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service.

As with all criminal charges, the accusations against Ruiz Castro are allegations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
