Newark and North New Jersey region residents are bracing for a wet Tuesday, with the day starting at a warm 79 degrees.
The National Weather Service has issued an AccuWeather alert due to incoming rain that could lead to significant flooding in parts of northern New Jersey.
Although temperatures will not reach the extreme highs of previous days, the weather remains very humid and muggy as rain begins to move into the area.
Meteorologists are closely monitoring the situation, especially as Hurricane Debby continues to impact Florida, and is predicted to cause severe flooding along the coastlines of Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida, with some areas expecting over a foot of rain.
The National Weather Service forecasters indicated that while our North Jersey region won't experience the brunt of the rain, we will still receive our share of heavy precipitation from the remnants of Debbie later this week.
Today, showers and possibly a thunderstorm are expected mainly after noon in Newark and surrounding areas. Some storms could produce heavy rainfall.
NWS meteorologist said the high will be near 89 degrees, with heat index values climbing as high as 96.
Tonight will also see continued showers and possible thunderstorms, with some capable of producing substantial rainfall. The low will be around 67 degrees.
Residents are advised to stay prepared, carry an umbrella, and remain alert to changing weather conditions. Have a safe and great day amidst the challenging weather.
