By: Richard L. Smith

My friends and family in Newark and the North Jersey region are facing another sweltering day ahead, with the National Weather Service issuing excessive heat warnings for the entire region.AdToday has been designated as an AccuWeather Alert day, cautioning that the combination of hazy, hot, and humid conditions will not only continue but may also give rise to violent and drenching thunderstorms later in the day.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), showers and thunderstorms are likely, particularly after 5 p.m., with a 60% chance of precipitation.

Temperatures are expected to reach a high near 92 degrees, but with the humidity, the heat index could soar as high as 101 degrees.

NWS forecasters say Winds will be light and variable, becoming south at 5 to 10 mph in the morning.AdResidents are advised to stay cool and remain vigilant as the day could produce severe weather conditions.

Precautions should be taken to avoid heat-related illnesses during this period of intense heat.
