Murder Charges Against Irvington Man for Killing of Cheerleader in Newark Dropped

Murder Charges against an Irvington man accused of fatally shooting a 17-year-old girl in Newark last year during an iPhone robbery have been dropped.

According to court records, on May 6, charges against Andre Fields in connection to the killing of Cheyanne Bond on June 29, 2014 were "administratively dismissed" without prejudice.

No immediate explanation was provided as to why charges were dismissed however Information on the Prosecutor's website states that charges may be administratively dismissed, as a result of "insufficiency of credible evidence."

On Aug. 4, 2014, authorities said the Fields and an unidentified accomplice approached 17-year-old Cheyanne Bond and a friend as they were walking on the 500 block of South 17th Street in Newark. After attempting to rob the teenager of an iPhone, Bond was fatally shot. 

The fatal shooting remains under investigation.
