The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is currently investigating a tragic crash that killed a cyclist on a busy roadway in Newark’s South Ward on Monday.
According to a statement released by Chief Thomas Fennelly, the incident occurred on Monday at approximately 5:25 pm at the intersection of Frelinghuysen Avenue and Carrington Street in Newark.
Chief Fennelly reported that the accident involved a male riding a motorized scooter who collided with a 2016 Jeep.
The scooter operator was transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:16 pm.
The decedent has been identified as Kenneth Roy William, 63, of Elizabeth, NJ.
The driver of the Jeep remained on the scene following the collision.
Chief Fennelly said no charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
