Residents in Newark and the North Jersey region are starting their day with another round of sweltering temperatures, recording 78 degrees as early as 4:30 a.m.The ongoing heatwave has pushed temperatures to extreme levels, but much-needed relief is forecasted to arrive later this evening, promising a cooler Thursday and Friday.
Today, however, the region must endure one more day of blistering heat.
Heat advisories and warnings cover the entire area. Temperatures are expected to reach near 95 degrees, with heat index values soaring as high as 100.
The intense heat will be accompanied by the potential for severe weather later in the day, with showers and thunderstorms predicted to start around 5 p.m.
Tonight, the stormy conditions are expected to continue until 2 a.m., followed by a chance of additional showers. Some storms could be severe, with a nighttime low of around 74 degrees.
Residents are advised to stay cool, hydrated, and indoors as much as possible until the cooler weather arrives.
Relief from the oppressive heat is just around the corner, so hang in there and prepare to enjoy a much cooler end to the week.
