Newark and the greater North Jersey region residents will face another sweltering day as they wake up to high humidity and extreme temperatures.
Today is forecasted to be the hottest day of the current heatwave, with only one more day to endure before a much-anticipated cooldown arrives on Thursday.
The National Weather Service has issued excessive heat warnings for the area, with temperatures expected to soar into the 90s, potentially making it feel as hot as 104 degrees.
Newark, Paterson, and Jersey City have activated cooling centers and implemented contingency plans to help residents cope with the severe heat.
Local hospitals are also on alert, advising the community to watch for signs of heatstroke or exhaustion.
NWS meteorologists said today's weather will be mostly sunny, with a high near 99 degrees and a southwest wind blowing at 5 to 13 mph.
There is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms developing after 2 p.m. As the night approaches, showers and thunderstorms are likely, mainly before 11 p.m., with temperatures dropping to a low of around 77 degrees.
Residents are urged to stay indoors when possible, remain hydrated, and utilize local cooling centers to find relief from the heat.
