Following a stormy Saturday morning with sporadic rain downpours, my friends and family in Newark and the broader North Jersey area are bracing for another heatwave that kicks off today.Temperatures are expected to climb into the lower 90s, but high humidity will make it feel like the upper 90s, leaving residents feeling particularly uncomfortable.
The National Weather Service forecasts a mostly sunny day with a high near 93 degrees.
Heat index values could soar as high as 96 degrees. A calm wind in the morning will shift to become a southwest breeze at around six mph in the afternoon.
Tonight, NWS forecasters say the sky will remain mostly clear with a low of around 76 degrees and a gentle south wind blowing at 3 to 5 mph.
This heatwave is expected to persist throughout the week without significant relief until Thursday when temperatures in North Jersey will drop to the 80s.
Residents are advised to prepare for extended periods of high temperatures by staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and using air conditioning to stay cool.
Make it a great day by taking the necessary precautions to beat the heat.
