Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez reported the arrest of a third individual in connection with a triple shooting that occurred in Jersey City on Sunday, April 7. Mr. Freddie Castro, 21, of Union City, was arrested in Kissimmee, Florida, by members of the United States Marshals Service Florida/Caribbean Division, in coordination with the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, on Thursday, July 11, 2024.
Castro faces multiple charges, including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, and aggravated assault.
He will be detained at the Osceola County Corrections Department pending extradition to New Jersey.
Prosecutor Suarez said the shooting incident occurred around 9 p.m. on April 7, 2024, when the Jersey City Police Department was notified of shots fired near Central Avenue and Bowers Street. Officers arrived to find two victims with apparent gunshot wounds.
Both were transported to Jersey City Medical Center. Freddie Posey, 25, of Jersey City, was pronounced dead shortly after 9:30 p.m. A 30-year-old woman from Jersey City was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.A third victim, a 24-year-old man from Jersey City, self-transported to University Hospital in Newark with non-life-threatening injuries.
Two additional defendants were previously arrested in connection with this incident. Darren Esteves, 20, of Jersey City, was arrested in Orlando, Florida, on June 23, 2024, by the Orlando Police Department and is being detained at the Orange County Corrections Department pending extradition.
Esteves faces charges including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, and aggravated assault.
Aaliyah Rivera, 23, of Jersey City, was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office by members of the Homicide Unit on April 24, 2024.Rivera is charged with murder as an accomplice and conspiracy to commit murder. She is being detained at the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
