UPDATE: Man Dies of Injuries from Tree-Chipping Equipment in NJ Cemetery

Authorities in Hunterdon County announced a joint investigation by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office and the Flemington Borough Police Department into a work-related death that occurred on July 10 at the Saint Magdalen Cemetery in Flemington.

Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée Robeson stated a 9-1-1 call was received at approximately 6:20 p.m., and officers from the Flemington Borough Police Department were dispatched to the cemetery.

Upon their arrival, officials say, they found a deceased male, later identified as Eonias Mateo-Perez, 22, of Flemington, had died from fatal injuries received while operating tree-chipping equipment.

Detectives from the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office also responded to assist with the investigation, officials said.

Authorities say the preliminary investigation revealed that the death was accidental.
