Serious Multi-Victim Crash in Weehawken Leads to Arrest and Charges

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has announced an ongoing investigation into a severe motor vehicle crash that occurred on Friday, July 5, resulting in serious injuries to three individuals.NinosThe incident took place around 9:50 p.m. at the intersection of Avenue at Port Imperial and Port Imperial Boulevard in Weehawken.

According to initial reports, a Honda CRV was struck by a Ford F350.

Following the collision, the driver of the Ford, later identified as 25-year-old Luis Tubac-Socoy of Passaic, reportedly fled the scene. In his escape, he struck two pedestrians: a 78-year-old woman from North Bergen and a 70-year-old woman from Florida.

Officials said Tubac-Socoy then abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot.

The two pedestrians, along with an 80-year-old female passenger from the Honda, were seriously injured and immediately transported to Jersey City Medical Center.

Four other occupants of the Honda sustained minor injuries.

The Weehawken Police Department quickly responded, leading to the arrest of Tubac-Socoy.

He faces three counts of Assault by Auto, two counts of Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, one count of Aggravated Assault, and several motor vehicle summonses.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the swift and effective response of the Weehawken Police Department for the arrest and highlighted that the investigation by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Weehawken Police Department is still underway.

The community has been shaken by this tragic event, and further details will be released as the investigation progresses.
