The Newark Shooting Response Team is investigating a shooting incident that left two individuals injured in a Newark community on Saturday evening.
According to preliminary information, the incident occurred shortly before 7:20 p.m. in the lower West Ward.
Officials at University Hospital notified Newark police of a male who entered the emergency room suffering from gunshot wounds.
Police then learned that the shooting took place in the 100 block of South 7th Street near 12th Avenue.
A second victim from the same shooting incident was transported to the hospital shortly after.
Police entered a nearby residence and detained two individuals who were reportedly in possession of a gun.
A crime scene was initiated as detectives continued to search for additional victims and possible evidence.
One of the victims was seriously wounded, while the other is reportedly in stable condition.
The motive for the shooting is under active and ongoing investigation.
