Authorities in Newark seek the public’s assistance in identifying the individuals in connection with a carjacking that occurred on Wednesday, June 26.
Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said at approximately 5 a.m., a man parked in the 700 block of South 17th Street was approached by a Black male suspect, wearing a black sweater and black face mask, who opened his driver-side door and demanded he get out of the vehicle at gunpoint.
The victim ran westbound until he came upon an ambulance at 18th Avenue and South 18th Street, where EMS personnel called Police on his behalf, officials stated.
According to officials, detectives investigating this incident observed surveillance footage of the suspect exiting the vehicle at the scene and walking with a group toward Avon Avenue.
Police seek the public’s help in identifying the suspect and group members wanted for questioning in this incident, officials say. Director Fragé urges anyone with information about these individuals to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).
