In response to a series of overnight and early morning armed robberies, we are learning that Newark Police have activated a citywide robbery protocol and intensified enforcement efforts, particularly in the city's South Ward and Downtown district.
While Newark officials have not fully disclosed specific details, our Metro Morning Crew understands that law enforcement is currently searching for a dark-colored SUV or possibly a Jeep believed to be occupied by 5-6 male suspects.
These individuals, reportedly wearing ski masks, have been targeting people headed to or from work, committing forceful or strong-arm robberies.
Although it remains unclear whether the suspects are armed with weapons, no serious injuries have been reported thus far.
Residents are urged to exercise increased caution, especially at bus stops or while commuting to work early in the morning or late at night.
The suspects are still at large and police are advising the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
