Dive teams from Lyndhurst, Wallington, Wyckoff, and Mahwah joined forces with the Newark Fire Department and Newark's Emergency Services Unit to search a section of the Passaic River for two males who reportedly jumped into the river Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the 900 block of Raymond Boulevard after reports of a man who had jumped into the river just before 4:30 p.m.
The Kearny and Harrison fire departments also canvassed their sides of the river in the search efforts.
Witnesses informed authorities that a second man had jumped into the river in an attempt to rescue the first man, but both were swept away by the river's current.
Divers conducted a thorough search of the Passaic River and located the body of one of the men just before 7:20 p.m.
The search remains active for the second person.
Newark authorities are currently investigating the incident.
