Bergen County officials reported the arrest of Mr. Harshkumar H. Patel, a 29-year-old resident of Piscataway, on charges including attempted murder and aggravated assault.According to a statement released by Prosecutor Mark Musella, the incident occurred on Friday, June 14, 2024, when the Englewood Cliffs Police Department responded to a stabbing on Sylvan Avenue at approximately 5:34 p.m.
Officers found a 30-year-old victim who was then transported to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment and later released.
Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit and Englewood Cliffs Police Department determined that the suspect approached the victim while they were in a vehicle exiting a parking lot.
Prosecutor Musella said the suspect stabbed the victim multiple times through the open window before fleeing.
The attack was deemed unprovoked, with the suspect being a stranger to the victim.
On Saturday, June 15, 2024, Harshkumar H. Patel was identified as the assailant and was arrested outside his residence in Piscataway by detectives, with assistance from the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Task Force and the Piscataway Police Department.
Patel faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and possession of a firearm.
