Newark residents are waking up to a balmy 71 degrees this Friday morning, signaling a warm close to the week.The day promises beach weather, with temperatures expected to soar into the low 90s. However, strong storms rolling in this afternoon will accompany the heat, making for a busy weather day.
The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 2 PM and 5 PM, escalating to more showers and possible thunderstorms after 5 PM.
Today's high is expected to be near 90 degrees, with a southwest wind around 8 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80%.
Tonight, NWS forecasters say the area will see continued showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2 AM. There will then be a slight chance of showers, with temperatures dropping to a low around 65.
