Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Dennis McFadden of the Carteret Police Department announced today that a shooting is under investigation in the Borough of Carteret.
Today, authorities responded to the area of Roosevelt Avenue following reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers found two female victims who had both sustained gunshot wounds and were airlifted to the hospital in critical condition.
One of the victims has since succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The other victim remains in critical condition.
An initial investigation, led by Detective Keith Cassens of the Carteret Police Department and Detective Javier Morillo of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, has determined that the suspect is a man believed to be between 20 and 30 years old.
He was last seen on foot in the area of Roosevelt Avenue, and it is currently unknown if he is still in the area.
Authorities are asking for the public's assistance.
