Police officials in Newark have credited a ShotSpotter device for quickly alerting them to a shooting in the city's South Ward.
The incident occurred overnight, just before 2 a.m., in the vicinity of 146 Hedden Terrace.
Upon their arrival, officers and detectives found shell casings and immediately taped off the area to search for possible victims and additional evidence. No victims have been reported as of now.
The suspect fled the scene and remains at large.
The identity of the intended target and the motive for the shooting are still unclear.
The investigation is active and ongoing as authorities work to uncover more details.
