Deadly Bicycle Crash Under Investigation in Ocean County

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and Jackson Township Police Chief Matthew Kunz have announced that a joint investigation is underway into a fatal motor vehicle crash that claimed the life of a bicyclist on Farmingdale Road at approximately 12:00 p.m. on June 9. AdOcean County officials said the incident occurred when a 2017 Audi A4, traveling westbound, attempted to avoid a head-on collision with a red SUV by swerving into the opposite lane.

This maneuver led the Audi to strike a bicyclist.

The driver of the Audi then overcorrected, resulting in a collision with a tree. The SUV involved in the incident did not stop and continued traveling eastbound, fleeing the scene.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver of the Audi was transported to CentraState Medical Center in Freehold to receive care for minor injuries.

Authorities are actively seeking a red or maroon Hyundai SUV, believed to be involved in the incident.

The vehicle is thought to be driven by a Caucasian female accompanied by a young male child.AdThe Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad and Jackson Township Police Department are conducting the investigation.
