A rapid response by Newark's bravest firefighters helped avert a potential tragedy when a fire broke out in a multi-family house in the North Ward on Saturday evening.
The incident, which occurred at 260 North 6th Street around 6:10 PM, prompted a quick and effective firefighting operation from firefighters.
Upon arrival, fire officials transmitted a second alarm after encountering heavy smoke and flames emanating from the three-story building.
Initial reports suggested there were occupants trapped in the basement, leading to an urgent rescue effort. Firefighters successfully stretched three lines to battle the blaze, achieving a swift knockdown by approximately 6:30 PM.
A thorough search of the building confirmed that no victims were present, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Newark Fire Department.
In the aftermath, the Red Cross of New Jersey stepped in to assist the affected residents.
The organization provided aid to 10 families, totaling about 25 people, offering temporary relocation assistance, food, clothing, and addressing other immediate needs.
