Newark Police Seeks Help Locating Man Wanted for Questioning in Shooting Investigation

Authorities in Newark request the public’s help locating Tyree Smith, 18, who is wanted for questioning regarding a shooting that occurred on Wednesday, May 1.AdNewark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said at approximately 5:05 p.m., police responded to the 100 block of Pennington Street on a call of a shooting.

A group of six or seven Black males began shooting at each other following a verbal altercation, officials stated.

According to officials, responding officers did not locate any victims but recovered spent shell casings at the scene.

Officials say police later received a report that a male gunshot victim had arrived at St. Michael’s Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening gunshot injuries.

The victim was transported to University Hospital for further treatment and is reportedly in stable condition, officials said.AdAuthorities say detectives investigating this incident are seeking Tyree Smith for questioning.

Officials said he is 6’5” tall and 160 pounds, with a dark-brown complexion and brown eyes.
