Newark Police officials are currently investigating a shooting incident that occurred near the New Community Corporation Housing complex on Monday evening, leaving one male hospitalized with severe injuries.
Around 8:45 p.m., residents on the Jones Street side of the complex were startled by approximately a dozen rounds of gunfire, prompting calls to the police.
The gunfire was also detected by a ShotSpotter device, which also alerted authorities.
Upon their arrival, officers found a male with a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to the nearby University Hospital for treatment.
A female was also found at the scene with injuries, though it has not been confirmed if she was hit by gunfire.
The suspect believed to be responsible for the shooting has fled the scene and remains at large.
Police are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident, seeking more information and working to locate the suspect.
