The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a fatal incident in Newark’s North Ward to determine whether a person found dead on the street was a dirt bike rider who crashed or a pedestrian struck by the bike.
The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Broadway near 2nd Avenue.
Police discovered the severely injured person next to a crashed dirt bike and alerted EMS to the scene.
Chief Finnelly from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
