Authorities in Rahway have detained a driver on suspicion of DUI following a two-vehicle collision that injured nearly five people on Sunday night.
The incident occurred around 9:40 p.m. at the intersection of Westfield Avenue and Jefferson Avenue.
Responding officers arrived to find occupants trapped inside one of the vehicles.
Multiple EMS units were dispatched to the scene to transport the injured parties to a nearby hospital. The nature and extent of the injuries varied among the victims.
The intersection was closed as police began their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
As of early Monday morning, there have been no fatalities reported in connection with the incident.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities determine the full scope of the events leading up to the crash.
