In a late-night operation, the Essex County Sheriff's Office detained nearly half a dozen individuals after discovering multiple weapons in a vehicle they occupied.
The arrest occurred near the intersection of North 7th Street and Orange Street in Newark just before 10:30 p.m.
According to preliminary reports, authorities ordered the five occupants to exit the vehicle during the stop.
A subsequent search of the car revealed three firearms. The suspects were then taken to police headquarters for processing.
The incident is still under active investigation as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the possession of the weapons.
