According to a statement released by Detective Lieutenant John McAloon, at 2:28 a.m., Belleville Police were notified of an attempted residential burglary in progress on Reservoir Place.

The homeowner was alerted by their Ring Camera of a male wearing brown sneakers, black pants, a black hooded sweatshirt, and one glove, attempting to enter the side door of the residence.

Lieutenant McAloon said police responded to the area and located a male matching the caller’s description.

The suspect was detained, and a screwdriver was found on his person.

Officers on the scene immediately recognized the suspect as the same individual previously arrested on May 17, 2024, for a residential burglary on New Street in Belleville.

Lieutenant McAloon said the suspect, a 17-year-old juvenile from Irvington was arrested and charged with possession of burglary tools and criminal attempt burglary.

This follows his prior arrest and burglary charge on May 17, 2024.

Belleville Police commend the effectiveness of the Ring Camera system in helping to thwart the burglary attempt and swiftly apprehend the suspect.
