Two people were injured in a shooting in Newark's South Ward on Wednesday night.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m. in the 700 block of South 19th Street. Police responded to reports of gunfire after a ShotSpotter device detected shots near Springfield Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers found the victims, who were transported to University Hospital by EMS. One of the males suffered a gunshot wounds to his back.
The extent of injuries to the other person was not reported.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting are currently under active and ongoing investigation. No arrests have been reported at this time.
Authorities are working to gather more information and determine the motive behind the shooting.
