A Russian citizen has been indicted for operating as an "access broker" and selling unauthorized access to computer networks, including a company based in Bergen County, New Jersey, according to U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger for the District of New Jersey.Federal officials said in a statement that Evgeniy Doroshenko, 31, also known as “Eugene Doroshenko,” “FlankerWWH,” and “Flanker,” from Astrakhan, Russia, faces charges of wire fraud and fraud related to computer activities.
Court documents and statements reveal that from February 2019 to May 2024, Doroshenko orchestrated a scheme to unlawfully access computer systems and sell this access for profit on a Russian language cybercrime forum on the dark web.
In January 2024, federal officials said he infiltrated the computer network of a company in Bergen County and subsequently offered to sell access to this network to other cybercriminals through the forum.
Cybercrime forums, like the one Doroshenko utilized, are platforms where criminals facilitate various illegal activities, including hacking and trading stolen data.
The wire fraud charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 or twice the gross gain or loss from the offense.
