Authorities in Hudson County announced that the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Major Case Unit has arrested a North Bergen man in connection with a murder-for-hire scheme.Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said Miguel Cortes, 37, is charged with Conspiracy to Commit Murder, a crime of the first degree.
He was arrested on Tuesday, May 14, outside of his residence on Paterson Plank Road and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, officials stated.
According to officials, the State has filed a motion for detention in this matter, which is tentatively scheduled for Monday, May 20, 2024.
Officials said on Thursday, May 9, the North Bergen Police Department received a tip of a possible murder-for-hire scheme.
The investigation found the defendant offered money to another individual to murder a female known to Cortes, officials say.Authorities say the intended victim was not injured.
