A Union County man has been sentenced to 33 months in prison for his role in a conspiracy that targeted residences belonging to Asian small business owners in the U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced today.
In a statement released by federal officials, Kevin Jackson, 57, of Rahway, previously pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Evelyn Padin to one count of conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen property.
Judge Padin imposed the sentence Monday in Newark federal court.
According to court documents and statements, from December 2, 2016, to March 20, 2019, Jackson participated in a conspiracy to burglarize the residences of Asian small business owners in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.
The scheme involved stealing large sums of money, valuable jewelry, and other items, which were then transported across state lines to residences in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
In addition to the prison term, Judge Padin sentenced Jackson to three years of supervised release and ordered restitution of $294,586.
