Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announced the arrest of 39-year-old Jimmy Mercedes from Paterson in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on May 5, 2024.The incident took place near the intersection of Broadway and East 24th Street in Paterson.
Prosecutor Valdes said Mercedes faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder and second-degree charges related to unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and being a certain person not allowed to possess a weapon.
These charges stem from the death of 62-year-old Daryle Robinson, who was shot multiple times and later succumbed to his injuries on May 7 at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center.
The shooting was initially reported to the Paterson Police Department on the morning of May 5, prompting immediate law enforcement response to the scene where they found Robinson critically injured.
Following a detailed investigation by the Paterson Police Shooting Investigation Unit and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, it was determined that Mercedes was allegedly responsible for the attack.
Mercedes turned himself in to authorities on May 10, and the State plans to file a motion for pretrial detention to be reviewed by a Superior Court Judge.
