Newark Police are currently investigating a shooting incident in the city's South Ward that occurred just before 1 p.m. on Saturday.
A ShotSpotter device was activated and alerted officers, who were dispatched to the area of 393 Hawthorne Avenue following reports of gunfire.
Upon arrival, police found multiple shell casings at the scene, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The area was thoroughly searched, yet no victims were found, and the suspect responsible for the shooting managed to evade capture and remains at large.
The motive behind the gunfire has not yet been determined.
As the investigation progresses, Newark Police are calling on the community for any information that might help identify and locate the suspect involved.
