Man Sentenced to 22 Years in Prison for Jersey City Shooting

Authorities in Hudson County announced that on Friday, April 19, the Honorable Carlo Abad, J.S.C., sentenced a 27-year-old man to 22 years in New Jersey State Prison for a shooting that occurred in Jersey City on April 5, 2021.AdHudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said Anthony Franklin, of Jersey City, was convicted at trial of Attempted Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

Officials stated following the verdict on February 23, 2023, Franklin pled guilty to one count of Certain Persons Not to Possess a Weapon.

He was sentenced to 22 years in New Jersey State Prison pursuant to the Graves Act and No Early Release Act for the case presented at trial, officials said.

According to officials, Franklin was then sentenced to seven years in New Jersey State Prison for the Certain Persons offense, which will be served concurrently.AdThe charges presented at trial were the result of a shooting in the area of Lexington Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard in Jersey City on April 5, 2021, where two individuals were injured, authorities say.
