Newark's Shooting Response Team was deployed to the South Ward after a ShotSpotter device detected gunfire early Monday morning.The incident occurred around 2:25 a.m. near 78 Empire Street, where multiple rounds of gunfire erupted.
Upon arrival, Newark Police found several shell casings at the scene, indicating the severity of the incident.
Although no injuries were reported on site, officers promptly alerted nearby hospitals to be prepared for potential walk-in gunshot victims, a standard precaution in shooting incidents.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
Police secured the area as they began an extensive investigation into the early morning disturbance.
Newark police are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward to aid in their investigation.
