Newark Police were quickly on the scene of a shooting in the West Ward on Saturday evening, thanks to an alert from a ShotSpotter device.According to the investigation, officers were dispatched to the intersection of South 20th Street and South Orange Avenue at approximately 6:15 p.m. after the gunfire detection system reported shots fired in the area.
Upon their arrival, police secured the location and discovered several shell casings.
Despite a thorough search, no victims were located at the scene.
The Newark Shooting Response Team was called in to assist with the ongoing investigation.
Authorities reported that the suspect responsible for the gunfire fled the scene immediately after the incident.
The search for the suspect is ongoing, and Newark Police are asking anyone with information to come forward to help in the investigation.
The use of the ShotSpotter system has once again proven crucial in enabling a swift response to gun-related crimes in the city.
